Why I chose this costume
How I made this costume
I have a deep love for AUs and exploring different versions of characters. When Aether was first shown in-game to have wings, I immediately thought of fairies and knew one day I would make him into a fairy prince. I also adore costumes with wings, and wanted to experiment with new methods of making wings from resin.
Materials used:
- fabric
- faux leather
- EVA craft foam
- epoxy resin
- Acrylic rods and cylinders
- Acrylic sheets
The main focus of this project was the resin wings. This was a complete experiment, as I was able to find very limited information online about using resin for larger wings. Additionally, the wings needed to appear as if floating. Therefore the whole mounting and harness rig was made to be clear, so as to easily edit out of photos and create the illusion of floating. The rest of the outfit was also made from scratch. The crown, chest piece, and arm bands all created from resin by pouring a thin layer onto pre-cut plastic sheets to maintain the shape.
The bracers were inlaid with resin and gold detailing was added to the pants using iron on cricut material.
